The Most Interesting Holiday of Each Month

Aside from big holidays such as Christmas, Halloween, and St. Patrick’s Day, there are quite a few celebrations that take place each month. Here are some of the ones that I thought were the most interesting!

January – Dry January

This is a more recent observance that took off in the United Kingdom around 2014 to urge people to abstain from alcohol. Celebrate by popping a bottle of sparkling cider!

February – Black History Month

In the US and Canada, Black History month is a way to remember the rich history that originates from the African American community. Many museums have special exhibits, and most schools teach a few lessons about the contributions African Americans have made throughout history including fun inventions like peanut butter as well as crucial developments like jazz and rock n’ roll.

March – Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month

This March, celebrate colorectal cancer awareness month by scheduling a colonoscopy and making sure your colon is as healthy as possible! After all, this type of cancer is one of the deadliest forms of cancer out there, according to GastroCare LI.

April – April Fools’ Day

On April 1st, indulge in your childhood self and pull a couple pranks on your friends! Make sure to keep them funny and not harmful. My personal favorite is switching sugar with salt and watching people get confused when they have their morning coffee.

May – National Pet Month

Finally, an excuse to spoil your pet all month long! You probably already spoil your animal, but this month, don’t be afraid to sneak them a couple of extra treats and give them some extra belly rubs.

June – Pride

Pride is a way for the LGBT community to come together and celebrate their history. It’s also a time for allies to voice their support and learn more about the LGBT community. Many cities have Pride Parades to bring everyone together.

July – National Ice Cream Month

As if you needed an excuse to eat more ice cream. Still, celebrate this month by trying a new flavor or five.

August – National Coloring Book Day

On August 2nd, grab some crayons, your favorite coloring book, and go to town! Don’t worry about staying inside the lines.

September – National Yoga Month

This September, celebrate National Yoga Month by learning a few basic stretches and practicing them each morning. You’ll feel a difference in no time!

October – Breast Cancer Awareness Month

People of all genders can develop breast cancer. This month, help raise awareness for breast cancer by donning a pink ribbon and raising money for a local organization. Also, schedule a mammogram. It can’t hurt, and it’s a great habit to have.

November – Academic Writing Month

This holiday was created so that writers have a regular schedule to write, and it encourages them to push themselves. Dust off your notebook and get writing!

December – Boxing Day

Just because Christmas is over doesn’t mean you should stop celebrating. On December 26th, celebrate Boxing Day and volunteer within your community or donate to a charity.
